WHAT IS A REEF STAR?
A reef restoration method that helps regrow coral reef by nurturing the small coral clippings until they grow and reform the radiant forest, bring back the eco-system around them. A reef star is only costing $35, and it could restore a reef with a dozen coral.

CONCEPT & STRUCTURE BRAINSTORM
We want to create a platform for the audience to access information about reef stars, let the donation process be as easy as possible. Make the interface and visual attract and let the audience have interaction and emotional connection with their donated reef star, which allows future donation and bond/ empathy towards nature.

1. RASIE AWARENESS
Users could explore the world’s coral extinction and restoration situation, showing videos, images, and live videos of coral in the ocean of nowadays, the past and the future.
2. DONATION & GET YOUR OWN STAR
By donating a $35 reef star, our audience would get a digital coral on the app, which corresponds to the real coral plant carefully placed by our expert team at the bottom of the ocean.
Our user could name their “star”, write a wish, select the type of coral and place they want to plant.
The digital coral will grow according to the growing speed of the audience’s real coral. The larger and better it grows, the more fish and diverse ocean animals would come to visit it.
The audience will receive fun facts or messages about the ocean from these animals
Through the account page, the user could see their contribution and track of their “reef star”. They could also have access to what the rest of the world has contributed and checked their friends’ reef stars.
The user could like each others’ stars, send gifts, or keep their coral anonymous.
The user could share their coral with social media to invite more friends to contribute or have fun together.
5.BUILD YOUR SEA GARDEN
If our user enjoys their “reef star” they could donate more and extend their sea garden. Depends on the type of coral, it would look different and attract different sea animals. So, we are waiting for our users to explore by themselves.
Feedback from user testing
Through user testing, we wonder if there should be more interaction between the coral and user, for example, feeding the coral or help the coral to cool down (the main reason of coral’s death is global warming).
